Medical Care 8h (MFA107)

Target GroupNautical officers to maintain and update their knowledge and skills in medical treatment in accordance with STCW convention of 1978 (with additions from Manila 2010).

ObjectiveAfter the course, participants will be able to carry out medical treatment in accordance with Table A VI/4-2.

Course Contents

  • Patient Examination.
  • Acute diseases.
  • Oxygen therapy and airway management.

  • Intravenous cannulation.
  • Surgical wound care.
  • Insertion of urinary catheter.

PrerequisitesCourse participants must have a valid certificate of competence for officers or a valid certificate in Medical care in accordance with STCW 1978 VI/4-2. Seafarers who have a certificate in Medical care under the previous Convention must have documented 12 months of sailing the last 5 years accumulated before 31.12.2016.

Course participants must have completed and passed the course STCW A-VI/4-2, medical treatment course have a valid deck officer certificate 12 months experience the last five years.

ExaminationAssessment of practical skills during the day course and pass a written test on the day of the course.
